Healing Our Inner Maiden

Healing our inner maiden is very important since so much of the rest of our life unfolds based on the experiences we had as a maiden around becoming a woman, falling in love for the first time, and our first sexual experiences. In Empress University Year And A Day Priestess School And Coaching Certification we explore what your first experiences were like together so we can heal and repattern any trauma you may have experienced. Here are some questions to ask yourself to assess if you have unresolved feelings, experiences or even trauma to heal?

What was your first experience with bleeding like? Was it honored and celebrated or confusing and shameful? Did the important people in your life respect your desire for privacy or celebration? Were you the first or last of your peers to go through this initiation into womanhood and how did that affect you? What was your first experience using a tampon like? How did you feel about becoming a woman? What has your relationship with cycling physically and emotionally been like as a woman? What has your experience been like with birth control or abortion? Have you explored fertility awareness or herbal contraception/abortion?

What was your first experience falling in love like? What were your first experiences with commitment and possessiveness versus freedom like in relationships? Did you ever feel that you had to trade love or sex for security? How do you feel about the label gold-digger? A label like gold-digger can be used to make a woman feel guilty for wanting financial safety and security for herself and even for her children and discourage her from expressing her needs and desires. Did you ever feel that you had to trade your voice, authenticity or sovereignty for love or security? Do you feel that you ever had an opportunity to be free and explore dating and or sexuality?

What was your first sexual experience or experiences like? What was your relationship to the concept of “losing your virginity” like? How was “losing your virginity” viewed in the culture you were in? The original meaning of the word virginity was a woman who belongs to herself. What was your experience with your hymen breaking or bleeding like or did you not experience that? Hymens can break and bleed from many experiences other than sex such as gymnastics or horseback riding. However, hymens can stretch if a woman is fully aroused and relaxed and has had plenty of foreplay. What does virginity mean to you now? How do you feel about male circumcision? Any uncircumcised man also has a hymen that can break and bleed or stretch. The practice of circumcision is a relic from a warrior culture and not necessary medically or for hygiene at this time in history. Also the practice is excruciatingly painful for babies and results in a third less average sensitivity in adult males.

Was there more emphasis put on how you looked growing up or who you were and your intelligence and gifts? Was there more emphasis put on being agreeable, compliant or of caretaking and nurturing others than on you being yourself, being authentic and standing up for yourself growing up? How do you feel you have been affected by all the emphasis put on how women look and their sexuality used to market and sell everything in advertising, media and fashion magazines? Do you feel you were or are more oriented to how your body feels from the inside or how it looks from the outside? How do you feel about your body and looks? How do you feel about dressing up and wearing makeup or being natural and comfortable in your body and clothes? How do you feel about girls or women using their body, sexuality or looks to get attention, love or profit? What do you think about the fact that prostitution is illegal and yet porn is not? In other words, if a man pays a woman for sex and films it and profits off of it that is legal but if a woman profits from her own sexual labor without it being filmed and sold that is illegal? How do you feel about derogatory words which are often used to shame and control women? How do you feel about reclaiming these words and giving them new meaning?
